Infectious Material Containment
A key element in any construction, remodel or major maintenance project is to have an integrated program to control the dust borne pathogens associated with construction activities. Mintie’s Infectious Material Containment Program (IMCP) which controls the dust generated by construction related activities, reduces the potential for healthcare organization-acquired illnesses.
Mintie’s IMCP includes:
- Inspection of the project site to determine an appropriate facility-specific method to ensure compliance with all existing and new regulations
- Onsite survey to install and maintain specific IMC protocols during all phases of construction
- Collaboration with the hospital’s infection control practitioner to assist in the development of an Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) for construction/renovation projects and compliance with internal policies and procedures
- On-site management of air conditioning systems cleaning and rehabilitation
- Assisting facility administration on master plan development and budgeting

Identifying the Problem
White Memorial Medical Center’s (WMMC) Facilities Manager contacted Mintie to perform an Infectious Material Containment (IMC) Barriers / Equipment installation and IMC assessment of their ongoing construction projects. The construction work consisted of multiple phased patient room remodels. There was concerne that critical barriers separating occupied patient areas were poorly constructed and might be compromised by constant construction personnel entry and exit.
Conducting the Service
Mintie initially conducted an on site survey and noted various potential lapses in good IMC practices, including; damaged barriers, improper demolition debris transport, construction personnel improperly exiting containment areas and inoperable or no negative air machines at anteroom entrances. Mintie’s project proposal included the installation of all required IMC barriers and equipment, exceeding WMMC IMC project specifications. This included; full time monitoring of IMC barriers, negative pressure anteroom construction access, and a comprehensive record keeping protocol to document daily IMC status. The project was awarded to Mintie and construction continues today with Mintie Corporation IMC support.
Client Relationship Management
Mintie's successful efforts on this project are another example Mintie Corporation’s decade old relationship partnering with WMMC Facilities Department to enhance facilities operations and practices.
